With summer slowly winding down and the promise of music tours returning, there have been many big-name artists dropping singles and albums this month. Just this past week we have seen albums from rock sensations, The Killers, with their seventh album Pressure Machine, the 5 Seconds of Summer frontman, Luke Hemmings has released his debut solo album, When Facing the Things We Turn Away From, and the much-anticipated debut album from Still Woozy titled If This Isn't Nice, I Don't Know What Is. Along with albums, several singles dropped this month that tease upcoming albums from artists like Lorde, with her newest single Mood Ring, and The Weeknd, with his newest single, Take My Breath.
Fans have patiently (and not so patiently) awaited Lorde’s third album, Solar Power, and it will finally be released on August 20th. Her most recent singles off the album mark her first new music since her sophomore album, Melodrama, which was released back in 2017. Judging from the singles and interviews Lorde has done to promote Solar Power it will be quite different from her previous two albums. Solar Power is inspired by her recent transformative experiences within nature and will have an overall brighter upbeat sound compared to her previous albums. Her singles off the album Solar Power, Stoned at the Nail Salon, and Mood Ring has all been hits with fans as the soft, carefree sound and lyrics give a much-needed escape from our current reality.
As for The Weeknd’s upcoming album, not much information has been released yet. His newest single, Take My Breath, is comprised of catchy synth beats and has a very similar feel to his previous single, Blinding Lights. This newest single comes in light of his recent Grammys snub. The Weeknd reportedly will no longer submit his music for consideration after his latest album, After Hours, received zero nominations at the 2021 Grammys. However, he noted that he does not make his music for the praise, and he is very excited about this upcoming project.
